This album starts with an orchestral sound, with the track ‘Little Bear’ eventhough it sounded like a piece of classical music from a film, and not the type of thing i’d usually listen to, I liked it straight away.
The first I had ever heard of the Guillemots was when I saw one of the songs from the album, the beautiful ‘We’re Here’ on MTV2 and loved their unique sound, with a mix of instruments and singer Fyfe Dangerfield, along with interesting lyrics.
Tracks ‘Trains to Brazil’ and ‘Annie, Let’s Not Wait’ offer something a little different to the rest of the album, by being more upbeat but these are not among my favourites as I prefer the soft melodic sound. The only song that I don’t like is ’Blue Would Still Be Blue’ as the singing doesn’t seem to flow with the music.
The twelve minute long ‘Sao Paulo’ is definitly worth listening to, starting off slowly but getting better and better and is like a story in itself.
I think this is a great album and gets better with every listen.
