I had been meaning to buy this album since it’s release in September 2009. I wasn’t that keen on single release and first track on the album ‘Uprising’, but as soon as Track 2 ‘Resistance’ began to play I loved it, and realised I had forgotten how much I like Muse’s music.
With dramatic piano pieces and singer Matthew Bellamy’s mysterious voice, there are times in this album which sound like you could be listening to part of a Queen song, (noticeably in ‘United States of Eurasia’) or a piece of classical music .
My favourite tracks are ‘Guiding Light’ and the three-part, thirteen minute long ’Exogenesis:Symphony’, where the influence of classical music can clearly be seen and is a beautiful end to the album.
I think that the two released tracks ‘Uprising’ and ‘Undisclosed Desires’ are probably among my least favourite on the album, but the more I listen to them the better they get. Although ‘Uprising’ always manages to remind me of ‘Dr Who’.
This is a great album, and ‘Exogenesis’ alone makes it worth a listen.
